Description
Pi-Cloud is a home open-source storage system, designed as an alternative to commercial cloud services and NAS systems. It is based on the Raspberry Pi 5 platform, ensuring performance, compact size, and low energy consumption. It allows storage expansion up to 16TB, providing plenty of space for your data. Raspberry Pi runs Open Media Vault (OMV), which provides robust network storage management, and is complemented by Nextcloud, offering simple data management, viewer and backup, including photos, videos, and documents.
Nextcloud on Pi-Cloud functions as a server application that handles data indexing and synchronization between all devices, such as computers and mobile phones. This means all your data is automatically backed up and available anytime, without the need to use paid external services. Nextcloud also allows you to organize files, share documents, manage calendars, or even create a home wiki. It's like your personal home intranet!
Open Media Vault, on the other hand, ensures easy management of network storage and disk backups. You can easily set up backups to spare disks, which is a common feature of NAS devices. In case of any hardware failure, your data is protected. Additionally, we recommend doing a manual backup to an external drive once every six months and storing it outside your home to maximize data safety.
Main benefits of PiCloud:
- Save on commercial cloud services: With Pi-Cloud, you no longer need to pay monthly fees for storage. Your data is stored right at home, and you have full control over it.
- Secure backup: Automatic synchronization protects your important files from loss or theft. Data access is available only within the internal network or externally via VPN.
- Clarity and organization: Nextcloud allows you to create and manage web content, shared folders, documents, calendars, or contacts. It also provides the option to easily share documents within your family or with friends.
- Convenient access from anywhere: If you want to access your data while traveling, simply set up a secure VPN connection, which will allow you to access Pi-Cloud from outside without compromising security.
- Everything in one place: Keep family photos, videos, documents, contracts, manuals, and recipes always within reach. Pi-Cloud serves as your home intranet and personal digital archive.
Who is PiCloud for?
Pi-Cloud is ideal for anyone who wants full control over their data, whether it's families, individuals, or small businesses. Instead of spending on external storage providers, you can control your digital privacy and save on monthly fees. Compared to commercial NAS systems, Pi-Cloud excels in versatility, allowing the installation of additional unmatched applications through Casa OS like Home Assistant, OpenHAB, PiHole, Taiscale, WireGuard, etc. We will cover individual applications separately.
